BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhuanet) --Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest storm this year, has slammed into the Philippines’ central islands, forcing millions of people to move to safer ground and temporary shelters.
Typhoon Haiyan whipped up giant waves as high as 4-5 metres and lashed the islands of Leyte and Samar. About a million people have sought shelter in more than 20 provinces. Nearly 200 local flights have been suspended, and commuter bus services stopped as the storm dumped torrential rain.
